Clarington Communities

TRREB sorts Clarington into five communities, and unlike the western cities they follow real places rather than lines on a map. Bowmanville is the main town, from the Victorian downtown to the new phases north of Concession Road 3. Courtice is the western suburb that runs into Oshawa. Newcastle is the village beside the 35/115 with the Port of Newcastle on the lake. Orono is the small main street to the north. Rural Clarington is everything else, from Hampton, Enniskillen and Tyrone on the moraine to Kendal and Newtonville in the east, plus the farms between them. Each guide below covers boundaries, housing eras, transit, schools, parks and who each place suits, and the Miller team of Urban Avenue Realty drives all five from Ajax.

Questions people ask about Clarington Communities

How does TRREB divide Clarington?

Into five communities: Bowmanville, Courtice, Newcastle, Orono and Rural Clarington. The first four match the urban areas as residents name them, and Rural Clarington collects every hamlet and farm, including Hampton, Enniskillen, Tyrone, Solina, Burketon, Kendal, Newtonville and Kirby. Wilmot Creek and the Port of Newcastle generally file under Newcastle.

Which Clarington community will get a GO station?

Bowmanville and Courtice. The extension from Oshawa follows the CP corridor with a Courtice station near Courtice Road and a Bowmanville station on the west side of town, after two new stops in Oshawa. Early works started in 2023; the opening date is not fixed, so plan your commute on the buses and the 401 for now.

Which parts of Clarington are rural?

Rural Clarington covers most of the land: the hamlets, the moraine and the farms north of the towns, plus the countryside between Newcastle and Newtonville along the lake. Expect wells, septic systems, school buses and a drive for groceries, in exchange for acreage and quiet.
