What to check in an Ajax bungalow
Age drives the checklist. A wartime or fifties bungalow in the South West may still carry its original sixty-amp service, galvanized plumbing or a fuel-oil tank history, so request the electrical and insurance details before you firm up, and look at whether the crawl space or partial basement has ever taken water, since the low streets near the lake and Duffins Creek drain slowly after a storm. Many of these lots run wide and deep, so they attract additions and, increasingly, full rebuilds; check the Town's setback and lot-coverage rules if that is the plan. A seventies raised bungalow in Central or Central East is usually sound, but the lower level often holds an older kitchen from a former in-law suite, and a suite of that vintage rarely has a permit on file. A bungaloft north of Rossland is younger and the questions turn to the roof, the furnace and any road fee tied to the lot.
