Brooklin, Taunton North or the older east side
Whitby's four-bedroom detached market splits into three districts with different trade-offs. Brooklin gives you the newest houses, a village downtown you can walk to, Brooklin High School and Cullen Central Park close by, and the 407 at Baldwin Street, at the cost of a longer run to the Whitby GO and to the lake. Taunton North sits closer to the middle of town, with the 2000s Mattamy-era subdivisions, Sinclair Secondary School nearby and the Thickson Road corridor for errands; Thickson's 407 ramps are a few minutes north. The older east and central streets, Rolling Acres and Williamsburg, bring 1980s and 1990s houses on deeper lots, in-ground pools in places, and a shorter drive to the 401 at Thickson or Brock. On any of them, have the public and Catholic boards confirm the school for the address, ask the age of both roof and furnace on a 1990s house, and find out whether a builder's four-bedroom plan has been modified into a three plus loft.
