Uxbridge Communities
Listings in the township are split into two communities. Uxbridge is the town itself, inside the urban boundary: the downtown, the older streets, the subdivisions and the townhouses. Rural Uxbridge is everything else, which is most of the township's 420 square kilometres: the hamlets of Goodwood, Coppin's Corners, Glen Major and Altona in the old Uxbridge Township and Leaskdale, Sandford, Udora and Zephyr in the old Scott Township, plus the farms, horse properties and forest lots on the concessions between them. Which community is Goodwood in?
Rural Uxbridge. Goodwood is a hamlet on Regional Road 47 in the south-west of the township, known outside the area as the filming location for Schitt's Creek, and it is grouped with the other hamlets and rural addresses rather than with the town. The same applies to Coppin's Corners, Glen Major and Altona nearby.
Where do Leaskdale, Zephyr, Sandford and Udora fall?
All four are Rural Uxbridge. They sit in the northern part of the township, the former Scott Township, and Leaskdale is the one with the Lucy Maud Montgomery connection. Homes there are farmhouses, village houses and rural bungalows on wells and septic systems, and the nearest schools are Scott Central Public School and the town's secondary school.
Is the town of Uxbridge fully serviced?
Yes. Inside the urban boundary homes are on municipal water and sewers, with the downtown, the arena, the library and the hospital within reach on foot or a short drive. Once you cross into Rural Uxbridge, private wells and septic systems take over, which changes both the inspection list and the financing conversation.
