Beaverton's harbour bungalows and the village stock
Walk the streets south of the Beaverton River and west toward the harbour and you will see the pattern: single-storey houses on lots wider than deep, detached garages added later, and lawns that run to the sidewalk. These were built for families and retirees when Beaverton was a summer town, and they now sell to downsizers from York Region and Durham who want Lake Simcoe within a short walk. Most have been reroofed and rewired at least once, but ask, because a sixties panel or an oil furnace still turns up. Cannington's bungalows are on the village's north and east flanks near the Beaver River trails, and Sunderland's cluster on the streets off River Street, both on municipal water and sewer. All three villages have Region services, which is the main reason a buyer picks a village bungalow over a rural one.
